Out here a working machine is worth keeping, and a transmission rebuild is often a fraction of the cost of replacing it. Honda transmission work is done in the workshop rather than sent away.

On an older machine we will give you the honest economics: what the repair costs, what it buys you in remaining life, and whether the money would be better put toward a replacement. Bring it as it is, and bring any warranty paperwork.
Wet seasons drive most of the work. Clippings pack into a deck and hold moisture against the metal, which rots deck shells and seizes spindles. Belts stretch and glaze from cutting long, wet grass under load. Slopes are hard on hydrostatic transmissions, particularly ones that have never had an oil change. And a machine that sat through a wet winter almost always comes back with stale fuel and a gummed carburettor.
